Homemade Fresh Cranberry Sauce

by on November 17, 2011

I can hardly believe it is that time of the year again! I just purchased a bag of fresh cranberries at the store and can hardly wait to make this sauce.  After I learned how simple it was to make my own for the holidays, there is no going back to the canned stuff. Not only does this homemade version taste better, it is so much prettier for serving. The color is simply scrumptious and I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. I will add a picture when I make it this next week.

Cranberry orange relish

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 cup organic evaporated cane sugar
  • 1 lb. whole organic cranberries
  • 2 Tbsp orange zest

Use 3-4 quart saucepan, stir the water, orange juice and sugar until the sugar is thoroughly dissolved. Add cranberries, bring to a boil for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the skins of berries begin to pop and the berries are tender but not mushy. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the orange zest. Transfer mixture to serving bowl and let cool. Chill for at least 1 hour.  Enjoy!

This recipe can easily be made a day or two ahead of time and is amazing on leftover turkey sandwiches with cream cheese too 🙂
